Data Sources and Accuracy
All data on DataDawn is sourced from public records filed with U.S. federal government agencies, including the IRS, Congress.gov, the Government Publishing Office, the Federal Election Commission, the Senate Office of Public Records, the Department of Justice, Regulations.gov, the Federal Register, and USAspending.gov. Records are presented as filed. DataDawn does not alter, editorialize, or "correct" source data. If a government filing contains an error, that error will appear in DataDawn.
Where DataDawn adds cross-references between datasets (for example, linking campaign contributions to specific members of Congress via bioguide ID), the methodology, coverage rates, and known limitations are documented on our methodology page. Users should review the methodology for any dataset before relying on cross-referenced results.
Privacy
DataDawn does not require user accounts, logins, or personal information of any kind. We do not use cookies, tracking pixels, analytics services, or advertising networks.
API and programmatic access. DataDawn provides public APIs for automated data retrieval, including by AI assistants and other software agents. API queries are not logged with any user-identifying information. DataDawn does not collect, store, or share personal data from API users.
Server logs. Standard web server logs (IP addresses, request timestamps, URLs requested) may be retained for operational and security purposes. These logs are not shared with third parties, are not used for tracking or profiling, and are purged on a rolling basis.
Third-party services. DataDawn uses Cloudflare for content delivery. Cloudflare's own privacy policy governs any data processed by their network. DataDawn does not control Cloudflare's data practices.
Government data and personal information. DataDawn presents public records as filed with government agencies. These records may contain names, addresses, compensation figures, and other information about individuals. This information is part of the public record and is not collected by DataDawn from those individuals.
No Warranty
DataDawn is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We make no guarantees regarding the accuracy, completeness, timeliness, or reliability of any data presented. Data may contain errors originating from government sources, processing artifacts, or linkage limitations.
Not Professional Advice
Nothing on DataDawn constitutes legal, financial, investment, or political advice. The presence of a stock trade near a committee hearing, a lobbying filing related to a bill, or a campaign contribution to a legislator does not imply wrongdoing, conflict of interest, or any legal conclusion. Users are responsible for their own interpretation of public records.
Licensing
All DataDawn code, data pipelines, and original website content are released under CC0 1.0 Universal (public domain dedication). The underlying government data is not subject to copyright under 17 U.S.C. §105. You may use, reproduce, and redistribute anything on this platform without restriction.
Limitation of Liability
DataDawn and its contributors shall not be liable for any damages arising from the use or inability to use this platform, including but not limited to errors in data, omissions, or misinterpretation of public records.
